What a Freed Dolphin Taught Me About Being Noticed

In 2009, legendary Italian freediver Enzo Maiorca was in the water with his daughter Rossana off the coast of Syracuse when something unexpected happened.
As he went deeper, he felt a gentle tap on his back. He turned and saw a dolphin — not playing, not passing by — but clearly trying to get his attention.

The dolphin dove, and Enzo followed. About 15 meters down, they saw another dolphin tangled in an old fishing net. He quickly called Rossana for a knife and carefully cut the ropes until the dolphin was finally free.

What happened next stayed with him forever.
The freed dolphin let out a sound Enzo later described as almost like a human cry. When they all reached the surface, he realized she was pregnant — and just moments later, she gave birth right there in the open sea.

The male dolphin swam slow circles around them, then came close, touched Enzo’s cheek softly with its nose — as if to say “thank you” — and then left with his new family.

Enzo later said something powerful:
“Until people learn to respect and communicate with the natural world, they’ll never truly understand their place on this planet.”

It’s a simple, strong reminder: nature notices, responds, remembers. It has a language of its own. The question is whether we’re paying attention.

Write on Medium

Stories like this matter because they cut through noise. They’re real, human, emotional and people remember them.

That’s exactly what great PR is supposed to do. Not just “get mentions,” but build credibility and connection through stories that actually land with the right people.

That’s what 9-Figure Media focuses on:

  • They don’t just chase random publicity.
  • They help founders and brands uncover the real stories behind what they do — why it matters, who it helps, and what makes it different.
  • Then they turn those stories into strategic media placements that build trust, not just attention.

If you’re doing meaningful work but feel like almost no one sees it, you don’t necessarily need louder noise — you need the right story, told in the right rooms.

That’s where 9-Figure Media comes in: they help you become the “Enzo moment” in your industry — the one people feel, remember, and talk about long after the headline fades.
